Spaulding doesn’t like ‘Liquor’

DURHAM — Seems that N.C.’s own Pam Spaulding has been one of a growing number of activists, private citizens and organizations who have led the charge to have blackface drag performer Shirley Q. Liquor’s engagement for Hurricane Weekend on June 19 cancelled at the Russian River Resort in California.

She joins others such as the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, Keith Boykin, Jasmyn Cannick, Fierce NYC, San Francisco Pride at Work, Queers for Economic Justice, Boston Mayor Tom Menino and more, who now and over the years have voiced their disdain for the performer.

However, according to statemaster.com, RuPaul has been an avid supporter.

Holy Bullies and Headless Monsters blogger Alvin McEwen in Columbia agrees with Spaulding’s stance.
