BOONE — High Country Pride has announced that it’s upcoming event, “Pride Around the World,” will be held June 13-15. The committee has sought as its mission to unite, celebrate and support the entire LGBT community by coordinating efforts to wet the whistle of any Pride-goer.

Hee Haw Bingo’s “Not Your Mama’s Bingo” will take place on June 11 at High Country United Church of Christ, 8235 U.S. Hwy. 421 N. in Vilas, N.C. Games start at 7 p.m. Admission of $20 buys eight rounds of bingo. Concessions will be available. Tickets, which are expected to sell out quickly, are on sale now using check or cash only at Yum Yum Foods to Go in Foscoe, Earthfare in Boone and Neaco in Blowing Rock.

The next day on June 12, Appalachian State University (with funding in part by the North Carolina Humanities Council) will sponsor a free symposium, “We are Family: Untangling the Interwoven Connections and Disconnects of MountainQueers.”

That evening, dance the night away with VJ “Dr.D” as he spins from 8 p.m.-1 a.m. at the Broyhill Inn and Conference Center.

The fun continues on June 13 at the Old Cove Creek School Ground in Sugar Grove for a family picnic from 12:30-3 p.m. Donations will be accepted for a drink and a plate of “Best of Boone” dining.
