A new monthly LGBT film series in Charlotte will kickoff on June 12 with the screening of “The Baby Formula.”

The new event will be held every second Saturday of the month at the StorySlam! Arts Center, former home to the Lesbian & Gay Community Center of Charlotte, at 1401 Central Ave., Suite 103. Doors open at 7 p.m. Admission is $7 and can be bought online at Eventbrite.com and CarolinaTix.org. Beer, wine and other concessions are available.

According to organizer Venus Smith, the new film series will allow patrons to “enjoy a film that tells our stories and authenticates the concerns and issues we have in our community.

“The Baby Formula” is a comedy that tells the story of two lesbians who use a new, controversial technology to become pregnant. The resulting turmoil among their family and friends creates a comedic drama that is both poignant and uplifting. Directed by Allison Reid and starring Angela Vint, Megan Fahlenbock, and Rosemary Dunsmore, the film won Best LGBT Film at the Nashville Film Festival and the Toronto Inside Out Festival’s Audience and Best Performance awards.
