CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Theatre Charlotte will present a local production of Larry Kramer’s acclaimed play “The Normal Heart” March 20-April 4 and is collecting names of AIDS victims to honor during the production.
The group is in the final days of collecting names of individuals who succumbed to HIV/AIDS. Any and all names, from Charlotte or elsewhere, are welcome. They can be submitted to director Dennis Delamar by email at ddelamar@carolina.rr.com. The deadline is tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 20.
The names will be projected on the walls surrounding the audience.
“I want the whole theatre space including the walls surrounding the audience to be filled with names. An homage. A reality wake up call of the people the disease has taken in the past four decades,” Delamar says. “So I am putting out an all call to anyone I know who would like to offer names of people they know (and cared about) who died of AIDS. In Charlotte, anywhere. Those names will be included in the multitude of names we show in that final dramatic moment. A memorial that honors, remembers, and respects lives that mattered.”
