Runway seeks men!
CHARLOTTE — Ever wanted to be a model? Now is your chance. An open casting call for male models will be held Aug. 30-31, 6-8 p.m. at STEP by Sloan, 1419 East Blvd. for the upcoming BRIEF! to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
This annual fashion show helped to raise over $23,000 last year. Model time should be gratis as a contribution to the cause. A calendar, 2011 Men of BRIEF!, will feature last year’s participants. For more information, call Dan Mauney at 704-906-6531.
Consortium has new name
CHARLOTTE — The Regional HIV/AIDS Consortium has changed its name. Now called Carolinas CARE Partnership (CCP), it continues to provide services to those in the Queen City and surround counties as it has done for over 20 years.
This change comes as a result of CCP’s desire to better reflect the work the organization provides. Its mission is to foster and ensure a regional approach to prevent the spread of HIV and AIDS and to meet with compassion and dignity the needs of those affected by these diseases.
They, along with the Mecklenburg County Health Department, currently operate a free, confidential HIV/syphilis testing site at The Lesbian & Gay Center of Charlotte, 820 Hamilton St., Suite B11, every second and fourth Wednesday of the month between 5-7 p.m. No appointment is necessary.

LGBT artists to hit Queen City
CHARLOTTE — Blumenthal Performing Arts Center has announced its fall performance schedule that includes some of the nation’s most interesting LGBT talent.
On Oct. 18, native North Carolina comic David Sedaris will read and recollect about his life at the Belk Theater. This NPR humorist has recently been on the New York Times bestseller list as number one for his “When You Are Engulfed in Flames.” A new book will be released on Sept. 28 entitled “Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Mosest Bestiary.”
Music lovers will enjoy the talents of the Indigo Girls on Oct. 17 in the McGlohon Theatre. Amy Ray and Emily Saliers will share their recently released “Staring Down the Brilliant Dream” as part of the repertoire. This duo has been a real fan favorite for over two decades.
Lastly, no one can mistake the musings of the irreverent and hilarioius Lily Tomlin. She will take the stage at the Belk Theater on Oct. 24. This award winner has charmed audiences the world over with her quick whit and no-so-subtle poke at life.
