LGBT activist, ex-gay survivor and artist Peterson Toscano is spending time in the mountains of North Carolina this month. From Feb. 1-18, he’ll serve as “Activist-in-Residence” at Warren-Wilson College right outside f Asheville.
On Thursday, Feb. 3, Toscano will present “Transfigurations: Transgressing Gender in the Bible.”
About the event, from Facebook:
In this one-person play, theatrical performance activist Peterson Toscano unearths transgender characters in the Hebrew and Christian scriptures – those people who do not fit the gender binary, and who in transgressing and transcending gender, find themselves at the center of some of the Bible’s most important stories.
Drawing on inspiration from interviews with transgender and genderqueer individuals, Toscano weaves their experiences into the stories of transgender and gender-variant people in the scriptures. Hilarious and deeply moving, Toscano’s play deepens well-known (and lesser-known) Bible stories as he presents an array of characters with an array of genders.
