CHARLOTTE, N.C. — More than 200 young people from across the region are anticipated to attend a special prom event organized for Saturday by Time Out Youth, a local LGBT youth support and services agency.
The event, the organization says, will offer young people across the Charlotte metro area and as far away as Asheville, N.C., and Greenville, S.C., the opportunity to attend a prom that is affirming and inclusive.
Entertainment will be provided by DJ Rob Yow, drag entertainer Buff Faye, Casanova Cowboy, Mr. Don’t h8 Stud 2012 and Mr. Showboy National MI 2013. Free formal prom photos will be provided by Still Out LGBT Photography Club.
Festivities are scheduled for Saturday, April 27, 7:30-10:30 p.m., at Grand Central, 1000 Central Ave., in Charlotte. The event is open to youth ages 13-20. The prom will be chaperoned and is an alcohol-free and drug-free event. Advance tickets are $8 for singles and $12 for couples. Tickets at the door are $10 singles and $15 couples. Advance ticket purchases or requests for more information can be made via telephone at 704-344-8335 or email at events@timeoutyouth.org.
Time Out Youth’s prom is unrelated to a similar event for adults originally planned for Friday by the LGBT Community Center of Charlotte. That organization postponed that event this week. Attendees of the center prom have organized their own substitute activities at L4 Lounge.
