Party time for Pride
ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Blue Ridge Pride will hold its White Party Soirée 2014 on June 27, 7 p.m., at the Renaissance Hotel, Top of the Plaza, 12th floor, 31 Woodfin St.
Don upscale white attire and enjoy a champagne bar, wine and beer, plus hors d’ouevres. Attendees can also bid on both silent and live auctions.
Monies raised go to support Blue Ridge Pride and Supporting Loving Food Resources.

Concerts quickly approaches
SWANNANOA, N.C. — Womansong will present “Why Not Now!” on June 20-21, 7:30 p.m., at Kittredge Theater, Warren Wilson College, 701 Warren Wilson Rd.
Music will be provided by Womansong and guest artists Indigo Blue and Firefly.
Tickets are $15/adult, $7/children 12-years-old and under and can be purchased online or through a chorus member.
Cantaria, The Gay Men’s Chorus of Asheville, will also hold a concert, “I Am in Need of Music, A Summer Solstice Concert,” at Warren Wilson’s chapel on June 21, 7:30 p.m., and June 22, 4 p.m.

Appreciation dinner set
ASHEVILLE, N.C. — SisterCare WNC is hosting a volunteer appreciation evening on June 26, 6 p.m., at the Center for Spiritual Living, 2 Science of Mind Way.
The free dinner and social will honor those who have served the community, as well as rededicate and appreciate all volunteers who have undergone training and served throughout the past year.
Anyone who is interested in learning more about SisterCare, been a part of the organization or wants to join in community service are welcome to attend the event.

It’s softball time in High Country
ASHEVILLE, N.C. — The Association of Lesbian Professionals – Asheville (ALPS) and Lesbians in the Mountains (LIM) are hosting a summer softball cookout and potluck on June 29, 1-5 p.m., at Murphy-Oakley Center, 749 Fairview Rd., at the ball field.
This event celebrates the 20-year partnership with ALPS.
The hosts will provide hamburgers and hotdogs grilled onsite with fixings (ketchup, mustard, onions, lettuce, tomato, pickles, etc.), along with soda, cups, plates, plastic ware, napkins, charcoal and coolers of ice. Attendees are asked to bring a side dish, dessert or salad to share, as well as beverages of one’s choice. Lunch will be served around 1 p.m.
For those who wish to hit wood, bring bats, gloves and balls.
Friendly dogs who are good with adults, children and other canines are welcome but must be on a leash and waste disposal issues must be attended to. Of course, this family-centered activity is open to participants’ children, parents, grandparents, siblings and grandchildren, etc.
Other groups who have received notices to attend are Old Lesbians Energy, Stella’s Place, Sheville, SisterCare WNC and other Yahoo and Meet Up groups. Visitors are welcome.
The park’s pavilion will be available for the entire day, up until park closing at 8 p.m. for those who want to stay and chat. Set up assistance is welcome at noon, as well as a clean-up detail at the close of the day.

HICKORY, N.C. — ALFA’s Executive Director Kevin Gwynn has tendered his resignation and the board of directors is in the process of identifying opportunities to fill new leadership position.
In process is a plan developed to address both fundraising and operational activities during the transition period.
The board has asked that the community have patience with ALFA as it continues to service its client base and provide HIV/AIDS services.

HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. — MCC Sacred Journey moved into a new location at 1st Congregational Church, 1735 5th Ave. W., in the Felix Building on May 31 and held its first worship service there on June 1.
