Wednesday marks the annual National HIV Testing Day, and local groups are using Tuesday to gear up for a day of prevention and awareness.
On Tuesday, from 3-6 p.m., several HIV/AIDS and other community groups will host a community-wide free testing event at Rosa Parks Farmers Market, 1600 West Trade St. Free testing will be available for HIV, Hepatitis C, Syphilis, Chlamydia and Gonorrhea. The event is sponsored by PowerHouse Project, Carolinas Care Partnership, RAIN, Rosedale Medical, Mecklenburg County, BTAN Charlotte and the Rosa Parks Farmers Market.
If you miss that opportunity on Tuesday, RAIN will offer their usual free, Wednesday evening testing at their offices from 5-7 p.m. RAIN’s offices are located at 601 E. 5th St, Suite 470, in Uptown Charlotte.
Elsewhere across the Carolinas, Walgreens has partnered with Greater Than to offer free HIV testing across the region. Free HIV testing will be available at select stores in Greensboro, Burlington and the Triangle area in North Carolina and in Rock Hill, the greater Columbia area, Sumter and Charleston in South Carolina.
