The University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Time Out Youth and Quist, the nation’s largest queer history app, are partnering this Saturday, October 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a “History Hackathon.”
Community members are asked to bring their laptops, phones and tablets to Time Out Youth, at 2320 N Davidson Street, to enter local, regional and national LGBT history data into the app.
Participants without a device can use the computers at the Time Out Youth computer lab. It is the first in person Quist “hack,” with two others following on the same day: one in the Midwest and one in California.
“We’re going to upload all of our local history into the app, as much North Carolina queer history as we can, and then a whole bunch of American LGBT history in that day. And so we’re really upping the ante for what’s available for people, and it’s a global app, so everything we upload people will be able to see all over the globe,” said archivist and UNCC professor Joshua Burford, who helped organize the event.
Burford also worked to create the King-Henry-Brockington LGBTQ Community Archive.
