The very first Burlington Pride event is set for Saturday, October 10 at the historic train depot. Over 1,000 people are expected to attend the six hour event, which will include food trucks, live entertainment and over 50 vendors and nonprofits.
Organizer and President of Alamance Pride Paul Keller told Fox8 that the city seemed behind the festival.
“90 percent plus positive response from the community, saying they wanted to see this, to show that Burlington can be a welcoming and accepting place,” Keller said.
The event will begin with an interfaith service, led by five local pastors and featuring a gospel choir.
“It’s a historic and proud moment. We welcome and fully include the LGBT community in the life of our church,” said Pastor Phil Hardy, of Life’s Journey United Church of Christ. “It’s something that we are proud to be a part of. To be a part of a moment which celebrates life, which celebrates the gift of love.”
