It’s been a couple weeks since Pride Charlotte’s successful Uptown festival on Aug. 27, but local writer Amanda Pagliarini is still weighing in with some of her thoughts. Pulling historic photos of anti-segregation and other racist protests, Pagliarini sets them side-by-side with photos from this year’s Pride Charlotte events.

“The color photos from the 2011 Pride Charlotte festival have an uncanny resemblance to the black & white photos from the civil rights era,” she writes. “Why does it seem that this country is able to overlook that just because the word “God” has been slapped on the posters?”
