Parents focus on HB2
GREENSBORO, N.C. — Parents and Friends of Gays and Lesbians Greensboro will hold a support and HB2 meeting on June 21, 7:30 p.m., at College Park Baptist Church, Youth Room, 1601 Walker Ave.
The organization also announced that its Carter Stroupe Memorial Scholarship recipients are Manuel Lopez, Jayce Shore, Chase Myers and Lucy Hartsock.
Lopez, an Alamance County resident, was recently named a Notable Latino of the Triad by the Latino Community Coalition of Guilford County. He plans to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Shore, of Guilford County, attended Greensboro’s National Conference for Community and Justice’s Anytown, a week-long residential human relation institute, in the summer of 2015, being its first self-identified transgender student attendee. Shore plans to attend the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Myers is the first Carter Stroupe Memorial Scholarship recipient from Rockingham County. He received awards in theater arts and information technology and achieved a 4.0 GPA at Rockingham County High School. His high school Capstone Experience focused on laws that are still in effect that discriminate against individuals with a minority sexual orientation or gender identity. He will attend the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
Hartsock is the coordinator and director of the Bayard Rustin Center for LGBTQ Activism, Education and Reconciliation at Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C., where she is a rising senior. After graduation, she expects to find ways to support queer and trans youth, such as being a foster parent for LGBT kids and teaching high school English.

Center fundraiser approaches
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A fundraising event for North Star LGBT Community Center, 930 Burke St., will be held on June 18 with a potluck at 6 p.m. and a rhythm and drum circle at 7 p.m. with Michele Sevacko.
One does not need to be an experienced drummer to participate. Participants will be able to release stress through meditative rhythms, get energized through energy-charged creative expression, build community and have some fun.
A handful of drums will be available for use, however, participants are encouraged to be creative and fashion a homemade one or bring something that can be percussed, rattled or shaken.
Contributions of any amount are appreciated to support the work of the center.

Bingo ladies raise funds
GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Gorgeous Ladies of Bingo will bring their charm and wit to Green Queen Bingo on July 15, 6 p.m., at The Elm Street Center, 203 S. Elm St.
Organizers say that this is the longest running drag bingo event in the Southeast. Proceeds benefit the Guilford Green Foundation.
Enjoy cocktails with the “Queens” at 6 p.m., followed by the game at 7 p.m. Bingo hall doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Tickets are $15/advance, $20/at the door and $12/with student or government identification and will be available soon online.
