PFLAG to hold state conference
GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) will hold a state conference for North Carolina and South Carolina on March 1 at Replacements, Ltd., 1089 Knox Rd., McLeansville, N.C.
The day includes presentations, workshops, continental breakfast and box lunch. Presenters include state and national PFLAG leaders, along with valuable input from participants.
Registration begins at 9 a.m., with a welcome and introduction at 9:30 a.m. by Mike Clawson, PFLAG NC state coordinator.
Throughout the day participants will hear important information on workplace equality, freedom to marry and second parent adoption, the Affordable Care Act and LGBT health, sustenance of chapters and the Bible and homosexuality.
Presenters include Diego Sanchez, PFLAG national director of policy; Chris Sgro, executive director of Equality NC, Thomas Bauer, trans distinctive care coach; Jamie Curtis, PFLAG national field and policy manager; and others.
Registration is $20 and forms are available online. Those who register before Feb. 20 will be entered into a drawing for door prizes.

Adam grant season approaches
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The Adam Foundation’s 2014 grant season begins on Feb. 28 and runs through April 30.
In preparation for the cycle, a public grant orientation meeting will be held on March 25 at 5:30 p.m. at the New Winston Museum, 713 S. Marshall St. The meeting is helpful to those who want to ensure that their applications are handled accurately and to specifications. Submissions are due either online or postmarked by the April 30 deadline.
Once the applications have been reviewed and gone through the foundation’s review panels, they will be placed up for vote. The announcement of the winners will be made during the week of July 14 at a local venue.
Last year, the foundation committed $68,800 to LGBTQ projects.
