Sports reporting

A reader responds to Wake Forest University’s sports marketing company plans to air its football and basketball games on an anti-gay Christian radio network (goqnotes-launch2.newspackstaging.com/31108):

I am terribly disappointed that WFU sports events are being broadcast by stations that are part of the homophobic Truth Network. I am a straight ally of LGBT people in general, and my husband and I have many friends who are gay men and lesbian women. I hope this poor decision can be rectified. And not repeated in the future. Wake doesn’t disappoint me very often, but it certainly did in this instance.

Pride comes to Gastonia

Readers respond to news of Gaston County’s first Pride event (goqnotes-launch2.newspackstaging.com/31115):

Congratulations to the organizers and participants for raising the awareness of my hometown to the LGBT community that is an integral, contributing part of its citizenry. I wish I could be there to march with you!
Harry M. Rosenburg, goqnotes-launch2.newspackstaging.com, Sept. 12

Best wishes for a great event! It takes alot more guts to be seen celebrating Pride in Gaston with 500 others than in Charlotte with 50,000 others

Education

A reader react to a Wake County teacher’s anti-gay commentary comparing the public school he works for to a concentration camp (goqnotes-launch2.newspackstaging.com/31086):

You’d think a man so immersed in his religion wouldn’t be able to stomach the idea of continuing another day of employment there and would have resigned, having complete faith that his God would provide for him and his family without that paycheck…. Or he’s just another hypocritical piece of shit that wants to judge everyone else on standards that he claims to believe apply to everyone else except himself if they might cause him some discomfort in some way.

Pittenger and discrimination

A reader’s thoughts in response to U.S. Rep. Robert Pittenger’s comments defending anti-LGBT employment discrimination (goqnotes-launch2.newspackstaging.com/31289/):

I honestly cannot believe we are still having this discussion! I think the federal government’s duty is to protect the rights of all when it comes to employment! The duty of employers is to hire the best person for the specific job it regardless of sexual orientation! Pittinger is one of those people that secretly believes race should also be a consideration in the hiring practices of employers. Charlotte cannot afford to go backwards at this stage of globalization!
