Swing Out Sister
“Beautiful Mess” (Shanachie)

On their ninth studio release “Sister” act Corinne Drewery (vocals) and Andy Connell (various instruments and arranger) continue to mine the rich vein of sophisticated pop and retro soul that has sustained them for two decades. Connell handles production duties on the album, his first time behind the board for a full project. He wisely focuses on simply keeping the group in its expected lane.

More than keeping up her end of the bargain, former fashion designer and model Drewery sounds as dreamy and lush as ever — particularly on standout tracks “Time Tracks You Down” and the title cut. In short, “Beautiful Mess” is exactly what you expect (and hope) it will be.
