A lesbian Connecticut activist originally from Salisbury, N.C., has been announced as the keynote speaker for this year’s Salisbury/Rowan PFLAG Autumn SoirĂ©e.
Anne Stanback, founder and former executive director of the marriage equality group Love Makes a Family, will speak at the Sept. 19 event to be held at Catawba College’s Peeler Crystal Lounge, 2300 W. Innes St.
Stanback was influential in the passage of statewide civil unions in 2005. In October 2006, she was inducted into the Connecticut Women’s Hall of Fame for her social justice work. She is a graduate of Davidson College and Yale Divinity School.
The Autumn SoirĂ©e will also feature entertainment by the Gay Men’s Chorus of Charlotte. The event is being sponsored by Food Lion.
