House member Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) is at it again. This time, the drag universe’s most well-known personality, RuPaul, was her target.
The occasion of Mace’s latest assault was the House Administration Committee’s grilling of the Director of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History (NMAH), Anthea Hartig.
Mace was outraged by the museum’s display featuring the drag impresario and two RuPaul’s Drag Race queens, Kandy Muse and Joey Jay.
The grilling of Hartig came on the heels of the release of the 162-page White House report, “Saving America’s Story.”
That report says an ideological war is being waged for the soul of America. “We must be committed to restoring truth and sanity in how American history is presented and taught, reads the report. Part of that “truth and sanity” is combating the museum’s “transgender activism.”
That activism is found, we are told by the report, in the exhibits and educational materials that “present gender as fluid, treat biological males as girls or women, and fold contemporary advocacy for transgenderism into the Museum’s treatment of female childhood development, women’s history, and women’s sports.”
Enter RuPaul and Rep. Mace.
The exhibit will be harmful to children visiting the museum, Mace argued. “Putting this kind of crap in front of kids sexualizes them,” she said. It “makes them vulnerable to people who want to rape them or abuse them.”
Mace further said, “You strive to represent queer pedophiles, indoctrination, grooming of kids at an American History Museum, and it sounds like you’re proud of it.”
Mace’s interrogation moved into a discussion of gender. She asked the Director, “Do you believe men can become women?” Hartig responded that the question wasn’t relevant.
Mace wouldn’t have it. “It’s very relevant,” she said. “You’ve got men dressed up as women, and you have them in displays in front of kids.”
RuPaul’s image was singled out by Mace. “RuPaul is a man who dresses like a woman.”
Mace, whose term in Congress ends with this session, has been one of the loudest voices on Capitol Hill opposing all things queer, and transgender people in particular.
On her Instagram page, Mace continued her diatribe against the museum.
“The Smithsonian National Museum of American History has drag queens on display in front of children and a glossary telling visitors other countries recognize three or more genders.”
The museum, according to Mace’s Instagram, “is no longer a history museum. It is a taxpayer-funded grooming operation.”
Mace finished last place in her primary bid for Governor of South Carolina, held on June 9. She is scheduled to leave office on January 3, 2027, with no known political plans in her future.
