For more than 40 years, Qnotes has covered the stories shaping LGBTQ+ communities across Charlotte and the Carolinas. Starting in August, the organization will bring those stories to audiences in a new way. The launch marks Qnotes’ first regularly produced show, expanding the organization’s journalism beyond its website, newsletters and social media to reach audiences through long-form video and podcast storytelling.
The Q by QnotesCarolinas, a new monthly show premiering Aug. 5 on YouTube and as a podcast, will feature interviews with community leaders, discussions of LGBTQ+ news, arts and culture highlights and stories from across the Carolinas. Produced by Qnotes in partnership with Bobby Kerns Productions, the show combines trusted journalism with engaging conversations that bring LGBTQ+ stories to life across the region.
The show is hosted by Qnotes journalist and Director of Strategic Initiatives Liz Schob, alongside co-hosts Vanna Vanity, an award-winning Charlotte DJ, drag performer and event producer, and Chann Daily, a Charlotte-based lifestyle creator. Together, the three bring distinct perspectives in journalism, entertainment and community engagement, creating conversations that go beyond the headlines and reflect the many facets of LGBTQ+ life in the Carolinas.
“The Q by QnotesCarolinas represents the next step in how we connect with our community,” said Jim Yarbrough, Qnotes publisher and show producer. “We’re building on more than four decades of trusted, independent LGBTQ+ journalism while creating a new space for conversation, storytelling and celebration. We don’t just want to tell people what happened. We want to explore why it matters, celebrate the people and organizations making a difference, and help our community feel more connected to one another.”
The inaugural episode focuses on Charlotte Pride and features an in-depth interview with Charlotte Pride Board President Will Martin. The conversation explores what attendees can expect during this year’s festival and parade, the organization’s work throughout the year and the continuing importance of Pride.
Beyond the featured interview, the premiere episode highlights upcoming events, explores several LGBTQ+ stories making headlines locally and nationally, and concludes with a Good News Corner spotlight on Transcending Adolescence, a western North Carolina summer camp for transgender and gender-diverse youth.
Future episodes will follow a similar format, combining in-depth interviews with discussions of local and national LGBTQ+ news, arts and culture recommendations, and Good News Corner, a recurring segment celebrating uplifting stories from across the Carolinas and beyond. Together, these segments are designed to go beyond the headlines, providing context on the issues affecting LGBTQ+ communities while spotlighting the people, organizations and events making a difference throughout the region.
New episodes of The Q by QnotesCarolinas will premiere monthly on YouTube and major podcast platforms.
