Documentary Film Viewing: ‘Southern Comfort’

“Southern Comfort” is the moving, true story of Robert Eads, a transgender man living in rural Georgia dealing with health care discrimination, but also finding love and support from his close-knit group of friends. This unforgettable film won a Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival in 2001. Discussion will follow the film screening.

Former Army Sgt. Darren Manzella/”Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”

Presented by Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN)

Former Army Sgt. Darren Manzella, the openly gay medic featured last December on CBS News’ “60 Minutes,” will speak at the Lesbian & Gay Community Center about his experience serving under “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” his recent discharge from the Army and his work with Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN). Sgt. Manzella will be joined by Former Air Force Sgt. David Hall, a litigant in the court case Cook v. Gates, which is challenging the constitutionality of the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy. Join the one and only Sabrina Love at Velocity for the premiere of the new “Queer View” season. Love will interview special guest Peter Paige. Paige played Emmett Honeycutt on the hit Showtime series “Queer as Folk.” Paige’s other acting credits include appearances on “Will & Grace,” “Girlfriends,” “Caroline in the City,” “American Dad,” “Related,” “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Without a Trace.” Moderate cover charges apply. Paige will make a special appearance with Love the following day at Pride Charlotte.
