CHARLOTTE — The Pride Charlotte Task Force of the Lesbian & Gay Community Center has announced new details for its 2009 festival planning, including news on next year’s festival date and location, a theme contest and two upcoming community events.

According to Pride Charlotte 2009 spokesperson Robert Touchstone, the organization has set its festival date for July 25, 2009, at Uptown’s Gateway Village, the site of the last three annual events.

In addition, the organization has announced a community 2009 theme contest. Past themes have included: “A Celebration of Diversity” (2006), “United for Equality” (2007) and “Live. Love. Be.” (2008).

All entries are due to info@pridecharlotte.com no later than Oct. 25, 2008. The top three-four entires will be posted on the Pride Charlotte website and the winner will receive a $50 award, recognition on the Pride Charlotte website and the in the Pride Guide and two event T-shirts. Fall community events
The Task Force also announced two community events to take place this fall. The first will be a Pride Night at SCarowinds on Sunday, Oct. 26. Discounted tickets for the event are available through the Pride Charlotte website.

The second event is a special concert fundraiser benefitting Pride Charlotte. Hosted by the Lesbian & Gay Community Center, singer-songwriter Richard Cortez will perform. Known for his blends of folk, rock and pop, Cortez will be accompanied by special guest Adam Smith. Doors will open at 7 p.m. The Community Center is located at 820 Hamilton Street Suite B11.
