CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A popular local bartender who worked at several local establishments died on Wednesday morning after a long battle with cancer. Brian Brown, 47, was receiving care at Presbyterian Hospital. His cancer had returned after several successful treatments.

Brown had worked at Hartigan’s Irish Pub and East Blvd. Bar and Grill, as well as other local bars.

Friends and former co-workers have arranged a fundraiser for Thursday, June 4, 7-11 p.m. at The Bar at 316, 316 Rensselaer Ave. Friends say Brown died with no insurance and little in the way of personal assets. Funds will be used to pay for Brown’s funeral services.

“We want to carry out Brian’s last wishes and celebrate his life in the best way possible,” Jill Phillips, a former co-owner of the now-closed Hartigan’s told friends and followers on Facebook.

“We hope everyone can join us and help us celebrate Brian’s life and remember the wonderful person that was our friend and family member,” Phillips added.
