On June 26, the Pauli Murray LGBTQ+ Bar Association will be holding its third annual Pride event in Raleigh, North Carolina at the Millbrook Manor.
According to a press release sent out by Candelario Saldana, the president of the Bar Association, the occasion marks two years since NCBA President Clayton Morgan had decided to cancel the North Carolina Bar Association’s Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Committee’s drag trivia event, which was originally scheduled for June 8, 2023.
“After attending a meeting on May 8th where Morgan stated that he was canceling the event because he didn’t want the NCBA to be “perceived as trying to advance just [the LGBTQ] agenda on the world”, the Pauli Murray LGBTQ+ Bar Association stepped in and put the event together,” the release reads.
“Together with the help of many of you, we were able to raise over $60,000 to support our Lavender Law Scholarship. To date we’ve been able to send 11 students, and this July we’ll be sending five additional students to this year’s Lavender Law Conference in New York! Together we were able to show the legal professions that LGBTQ+ legal professionals should not be sacrificed in order to advance other hateful agenda in our state legislature.”
The theme for this year will be “Infinite Spectrum: Bold Legacies, Boundless Futures.” The evening will start at 6 p.m., with hors d’oeuvres, a taco station for the main course and an open bar provided till 8:30 p.m. The evening will be centered around highlighting Pride month, providing a space for LGBTQ+ and ally legal professionals, and an opportunity for the general community to enjoy and network.
Over the course of the three-hour event, which continues until 9 p.m., there will also be a DJ and drag performances in celebration of queer culture. While the event is meant for individuals in the legal profession, the Pauli Murray LGBTQ+ Bar Association encourages all parties who are interested to grab a ticket and join in on the celebration of Pride.
