GREENVILLE, S.C. — Greenville County Council candidate James Akers, Jr. (D) will hold two town hall meetings within the next week.

“An election should be about the concerns of the citizens, not about who is a big money candidate and raises the most money,” Akers said in a Tuesday press release. “It is important for citizens to know where each candidate stands on specific issues and that a citizen should not be required make a large contribution in order to attend a house party to talk to a candidate about the issues.”

The two Wednesday meetings are meant to connect citizens to the candidate.

“The only way to know the desire of the District 24 citizens regarding Council’s direction is to get into the community, hear the issues and share my position,” Akers said.

As reported in Q-Notes‘ March 22 issue, Republican challenger Liz Seman has already hinted that gay-baiting will be part of her election strategy, if necessary. While she didn’t mention Akers by name, Seman’s Feb. 19 candidacy announcement included coded phrases like “traditional values.”

  1. I used to live in Greenville. He has a helluva uphill battle. Still, the visibility this brings will be like water breaking down rock. Slow and steady wins the race.

  2. Hillary Clinton supports Anti-Hate Crime Legislation.

We need a President who sees LGBT issues as basic Civil Rights. We need a President who sees LGBT Americans as worthy to be included in the American Dream. We need a President who has proven her support for LGBT issues. We need a President who will support Civil Unions, giving our families the same respect under the law as every other American family. We need a President who will pass the Employment Non-Discrimination Act. We need a President who will pass Federal Hate Crimes Legislation. We need a President who will end the discrimination of the military Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy. We need a President who will deliver Universal Health Care for All Americans. This President is Hillary Clinton.
