Democrat Marcus Brandon sailed to victory in his race to succeed longtime Democratic North Carolina legislator Earl Jones in the House’s 60th District on Tuesday.
Brandon will become the only openly gay member of the North Carolina General Assembly. State Sen. Julia Boseman, the only openly gay or lesbian member of the legislature thus far, did not run for reelection this year.
Brandon won his race 70%-30% against Republican Lonnie R. Wilson.
In an interview with qnotes, Brandon said he priorities were jobs and education. He also wants to put a focus on healthcare within the state.
