This just in from the Pride Charlotte committee:

The Pride Charlotte Pageantry System has crowned its first Mr. Pride Charlotte MI. The pageant, featuring male impersonators, was held on Sunday, June 28th at Hartigan’s Pub. Four contestants competed in the categories of interview, presentation, creative fashion, on-stage question and talent.

The winner, who goes by the stage name Howard Hung, has been performing as a drag king for two years. Howard, a native of Houston, Texas, has also lived in California, and currently resides in Rock Hill, South Carolina. “The crowd reaction during a show is more rewarding than the dollar bill most people hand me. I live to entertain and make sure everyone around me is enjoying themselves,” says Howard, when asked about the best part of being a performer.

Howard impressed the judges with a medley of Michael Jackson songs. First runner-up was Cory Stone. In addition to the contestants, the pageant featured entertainment from the West Coast Kid, Roxy C. Moorecox, Brooke Divine and Angela Lopez.

Miss Pride Charlotte will be crowned on July 10th at a culmination of several preliminary pageants that have occurred since May at various venues around Charlotte.

Mr. Pride Charlotte, Miss Pride Charlotte, as well as many of the pageant runners-up, will perform on the Gateway Stage at Pride Charlotte.
