CHARLOTTE — The Mecklenburg Gay and Lesbian Political Action Committee (MeckPAC) released their endorsements for two races in this year’s 2010 primaries. Early voting began on April 15. The primary will be held May 4.

In the Democratic primary for Mecklenburg County Sheriff, MeckPAC endorsed incumbent Democrat Chipp Bailey. The group said Bailey’s primary challenger, Antoine Ensley, was receptive to LGBT equality issues.

MeckPAC also endorsed incumbent Democrat Vilma Leake in her primary for the Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners District 2. Her challenger, Beverly Cotton Lawston, was also noted as being receptive to LGBT equality issues.

The group did not make any endorsements in any other local races, most of which include unchallenged incumbents. A crowded field of 8 Republicans are vying for a chance to run for At-Large positions on the County Commission.
