At the end of 2024, another beloved Charlotte staple looks to close its doors. Letty’s on Shamrock, a hidden LGBTQ+ friendly gem wedged between Eastway Boulevard and Plaza Road, announced on Facebook it will close by the end of the year.
The message reads:
“Dear Friends and Family of Letty’s,
On this Friday the 13th, it is with a heavy yet hopeful heart that we announce the closing of Letty’s as of December 31st. After much reflection, I’ve made the bittersweet decision to step back and embrace retirement. As I grow older, it feels like the right time to prioritize my health, my family, and the next chapter of my life.
For the past 12 years, Letty’s has been more than just a restaurant—it has been my home and my heart. From the very beginning, I dreamed of creating a place where people could gather, enjoy delicious food, and feel a true sense of community. Whether you joined us for a special celebration, a casual dinner, a beer at the bar, or were one of our treasured regulars, you became part of the Letty’s family—and you always will be.
As we prepare to close this chapter, I invite you to join us in the coming weeks to celebrate the memories we’ve shared and the relationships we’ve built together. Between now and December 31st, we hope to see many familiar faces, so we encourage you to make reservations to ensure your spot during this special time.

Within days of the online announcement, an outpouring of love came from the community it catered to for more than a decade. Well wishes of retirement, recanted memories, and solidarity with the decision have followed the post, acknowledging the owner do what is in her best interest.
Since opening on Shamrock Drive in December 2012, the eatery had become a popular destination for many, but especially the LGBTQ+ community. In relative close proximity to a few other well-known hangouts, Hattie’s Tavern and Chasers, Letty’s was also the site of previous benefits for the community, as well as an occasional drag performance space.
For those wanting to check the establishment out for the first time, or relive past memories before Letty’s closes its doors permanently, it remains open through December 31.
