The Charlotte Business Guild will host theater director J.D. Lewis and his two sons at their meeting on Tuesday, April 19, 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Lesbian & Gay Community Center.
Lewis, a Guild member, has established Twelve in Twelve (twelveintwelve.org), a Charlotte-based 501(c)(3) organization that is taking him and his two sons to 12 countries in 12 months in July of 2011, working in orphanages, schools, townships and with tribes to build a network for change.
Lewis, who moved to Charlotte in 2007 to open an Actor’s Lab office and to raise his children, is taking sons Jackson and Buck to do humanitarian work in 12 countries in 12 months (thus “Twelve in Twelve”) and every continent. And, at every stop, they will make a difference in the community.
A two-person documentary film crew will be present to record the experience in order to educate, promote and connect others to the project. The Twelve In Twelve website will be populated with photos, video and blogs with each member of the family sharing their experience in real time. The eldest son, Jackson Lewis, 13, will have the moniker of “Global Teen Blogger.” His weekly video blogs will be promoted to middle schools and high schools across America. The younger son, Buck, will be The Global Ambassador for Lego. Lego has agreed to send shipments of Legos to each of their 12 locations.
Guild organizers are encouraging members and guests with children to bring them for their family-friendly event. School and youth groups are also invited.
The Guild will also host a charity social at The Bar at 316 on April 29, benefiting University of Florida students who volunteered at the Lesbian & Gay Community Center during their spring break last month.
