Greensboro’s chapter of Stonewall Sports is set to wrap up its spring season and kick off its summer sports, giving LGBTQ+ folks and allies a chance to come together and play recreational sports.

Founded on the principle of creating safe and welcoming spaces for LGBTQ+ individuals and allies, Stonewall Sports operates across various cities, offering a diverse range of sports leagues and events.

From dodgeball and kickball to volleyball and bowling, Stonewall Sports provides opportunities for people of all skill levels to participate and connect. Beyond the competitive aspect, the organization fosters a sense of belonging and camaraderie, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and mutual support.

Greensboro’s chapter is set to start up its summer Bocce ball league, with the season’s start scheduled for May 2 and ending on May 30. Players of all levels of experience are allowed to register for this league, according to the organization’s website. Games will take place on Thursdays at 7 p.m. at Old Peck at 1101 Fairbanks St. There aren’t set teams this season — instead, each Thursday there will be new teams created to allow more socializing between members. There will be prizes for the winners of games each night. The cost to register for summer bocce ball is $25.

Greensboro Stonewall Sports is also preparing to wrap up its spring grass volleyball season on May 15 at Old Peck Park. All games will take place on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m., and all people of all identities are welcome to participate in the volleyball league.

The Greensboro chapter is also in the middle of its spring kickball season, which started in mid-March and is set to end on May 19. According to the sport listing on the Greensboro Stonewall Sports website, players have the option to form teams or register as a free agent to be placed on a team. All teams are required to take free agents, and free agents will also be asked to rank themselves during registration. Free agent skill levels will be used to distribute them among the teams, and distribution will not be influenced by the teams existing players and skill levels. Kickball games will take place every Sunday through the season at Old Peck Park.
