College students Matty Daley and Bobby Canciello say they will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the couple with the longest kiss (h/t Queerty).
The previous record was set in 2009 in Germany when couple Nikola Matovic and Kristina Reinhart kissed for an astounding 32 hours, 7 minutes, 14 seconds — no bathroom, sleep or food breaks. Matty and Bobby will follow the same rules, including no leaning or sitting. The two must keep their lips together at all times. Any separation voids the record-breaking attempt.
Matty and Bobby are releasing a series of photos recreating famous kisses. Above, is the infamous fake “Zac Efron gay kiss” photo. Others already revealed include the Spiderman kiss, the two lesbians kiss and a Prince Charming fairy tale kiss.
The two (P.S. — Bobby has a boyfriend, and Matty is keeping mum) say their kissing campaign is meant to raise awareness: “Join Matty and Bobby during these days to support the uprising of the GLBTQ community, in an effort of student activism, and in support of equal rights for every individual regardless of sexual orientation or gender, with an event that is sure to show the American community, and the world, that a kiss between two men (and women) can be so simple.”
The two set off on their quest today. The record for longest continuous kiss has never been held by a same-sex couple.
UPDATE (Aug. 12, 2010, 2 p.m.): The Advocate reports Matty’s and Bobby’s longest kiss attempt will be rescheduled for September due to a larger than expected crowd of spectators.
