Fund hosts happening

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte Lesbian and Gay Fund will hold its 9th Annual Happening on May 11, 12 p.m., at The Westin Hotel, 601 S. College St.

Networking will begin at 11:15 a.m.

Emcee for the event is radio personality Sheri Lynch from the nationally syndicated Bob & Sheri Show on 107.9 The LINK. Lynch is also an author and speaker.

The luncheon event presented by Wells Fargo is held to raise awareness and support for the fund while highlighting its grant program and 2016 grant recipients. Grant recipients have used the grant money to shore up the efforts of which they are charged.

Tickets are $40/person and $400/table and are available online.

The fund is an initiative of the Foundation For The Carolinas, 220 N. Tryon St.

Anti-HB2 benefit slated

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A benefit to support Transcend Charlotte will be held on May 16, 7 p.m., at Hattie s Tap & Tavern.

The event is a way to support the work of Transcend Charlotte as it continues to deliver important safety programs and services to the city s trans community.

Performers include Brooklyn-based All Sound s Fair, Lara Americo, an independent musician and vocalist, and Hectorina, a local punk/rock/soul band.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte Pride Band (CPB) closes its fifth season with A Pops Matinee on May 21, 5 p.m., in Heaton Hall of Myers Park Baptist Church, 1900 Queens Rd.

The program features the music of stage and screen. CPB performs selections representing stories and characters that Hollywood has created over the years. Featured pieces include music from “Doctor Who” “Star Wars,” “Jurassic Park,” “Into the Woods,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” “The Muppet Show” and James Bond movies.

Tickets are $10 from band members and $13 online or at the door. Tickets may be purchased at the door or online.
