Going GaGa for TOY
CHARLOTTE — Time Out Youth is going “Gaga for Dada” on July 11 at Theatre Charlotte, 501 Queens Rd.
A DADA [dah-dah] -event is a celebration of all things art, including culture, theme and performance. The fourth annual soiree benefits Time Out Youth while “exalting summer, on a canvas of white.”
Cocktail culture begins at 5 p.m. and the curtain call is set for 6:15 p.m. Cash bar available. Hosts are Vito Abate and Kerri Nichols.

General admission is $45. VIP tickets are available for $250 and includes a table for four onstage with the artists during the performance. Parking is available at the RBC Centura lot at 3rd and Colonial around the corner from the theater.

McCreesh Place given green light
CHARLOTTE — The Villa Heights Neighborhood Organization gave it a big thumbs up on May in support of of a $3.5 million expansion plan for McCreesh Place in the North Davidson Street area.
The Charlotte Observer reported in May that this was a real turn around from what was experienced there eight years ago when neighbors were strongly against building of McCreesh’s housing project for homeless addicts. They felt it would bring down property values and escalate crime.
Many of the area’s meetings are held at the center, as well as bingo games. The homeless men have become “endeared” to Villa Heights. They pick up trash and pass out newsletters.
The expansion will allow for 90 residents to live there, up from 63.
This housing unit, owned by St. Peter’s Homes, is named for the late Fr. Gene McCreesh who was a champion for the homeless and a tremendous supporter of the LGBT community. He was active with the Diocesan Ministry for Gay & Lesbian Catholics and was often found at the bedside of many of Charlotte’s gay men and others who were dying from complications of HIV/AIDS.
