Alison Bechdel’s “Fun Home” was the recipient of a recent Tony Award and was adapted into a musical from her graphic memoir of the same name.

A former cartoonist for qnotes whose “Dykes to Watch Out For” graced its pages for a number of years, was on hand for the awards’ ceremony and was on stage with the cast, producers and directors when it received Best Musical.

funhome_logoThe story tells the tale of Bechdel’s childhood in rural Pennsylvania. At its center is her relationship with her father and themes surrounding family dysfunction, abuse, suicide, gender and sexual orientation.

It received numerous book award nominations and was on The New York Times Best Seller list. And, it was a finalist for the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. It netted an Obie Award in musical theatre.
