Carrboro’s upcoming Pride Dance Party, set for June 26, will feature food, music, drag performances and community resources while highlighting the local Latinx LGBTQ+ community. The festivities begin at 4:30 p.m. Friday, June 26, with Carrboro’s Pride Piper Walk. Community members and local officials will gather at El Centro Hispano before helping roll the town’s Rainbow Ram down Weaver Street to Town Commons.

The Carrboro Pride Dance Party Fiesta del Orgullo de Carrboro follows from 5 to 9 p.m. at Carrboro Town Commons. The free event is part of Chapel Hill-Carrboro’s Small Town Pride celebration, a series of events designed to promote LGBTQIA+ equality, visibility and community support throughout Pride Month.

Attendees can expect an evening of dancing and community gathering on the town lawn. The event will also feature children’s crafts and tables offering resources, support and advocacy for LGBTQ+ people and their families.

This year’s event marks a new partnership between Carrboro’s Pride Dance Party and Orgullo Latinx. The Town of Carrboro recently announced that the two celebrations have merged, bringing together the town and El Centro Hispano to create what organizers describe as a special event filled with new energy and joyful creativity.

Organizers say the event is designed to celebrate and share the diverse cultures, identities and experiences of the local Latinx LGBTQ+ community. Through their collaboration, El Centro Hispano and the Town of Carrboro hope to foster unity, inclusivity and empowerment by showcasing community talent while connecting attendees with social, healthcare and advocacy resources.

The event is one of several activities taking place throughout Small Town Pride, an annual collaboration between Carrboro and Chapel Hill that brings together local businesses, artists, volunteers and community partners. Organizers say Small Town Pride promotes LGBTQIA+ equality, increases visibility, supports inclusive legislation and raises awareness of issues affecting LGBTQ+ communities.
