In the May 29 print issue of qnotes, we teased two online only features: a commentary on masculinity and sexuality by former intern Nathan James and an interview with openly gay former college footballer and advocate Brian Sims.

Embarrassingly, our teaser for Sims’ interview wasn’t proofread well enough and we ended up with a major mistake in the headline. What read “Caption of the team” should have read “Captain of the team.”

It was an honest mistake, really. Our editing and production staff write and think the word “caption” a bazillion times during layout as photos are put into place and captions must be written. In this case, keyboarding habit took control over the correct word our mind was thinking.

We regret (while blushing and laughing at ourselves for) the error.

  1. We don’t use spell check, specifically because it does miss words that are spelled properly but used improperly. We do proofreading the old fashion way. This time, we just made a boo-boo.
