Charlotte’s Blumenthal Arts Center recently released their list of stage productions that will headline for the 2026-27 PNC Broadway Lights Series. It’s a standout mix of drama, romance, spectacle and comedy, which includes the 40th anniversary return of “Phantom of the Opera” in a revitalized production featuring Maria Björnson’s original design.
There’s also a new, re-imagined production of “Beauty and the Beast,” the Charlotte premiere of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” and the regional premiere of “Oh, Mary!” as well as the Charlotte premiere of “Peter Pan Goes Wrong” (produced by Blumenthal Arts and staged exclusively in Charlotte). “Buena Vista Social Club,” stages in Charlotte in its first presentation following the initial Broadway run.
The season also includes “Dirty Dancing” and “Death Becomes Her,” rounding out a lineup that blends returning favorites, fresh productions and major Broadway titles.
In addition, Blumenthal Arts will also present four Broadway Extras: “A Beautiful Noise,” “The Wiz,” “Heathers” and “Jersey Boys.”
“When we build a season, we’re thinking about the full experience of what it means to gather in a theater,” says Tom Gabbard, CEO of Blumenthal Arts. “We want shows that get people talking on the drive home, stories that stay with someone for weeks, or a performance that brings a new audience member through our doors for the first time. This season gives Charlotte audiences access to some of the most exciting work coming out of Broadway.”
The 2026-2027 season kicks off in November ’26 and continues through November ’27, which allows plenty of advance time to purchase advance and season tickets.

“Death Becomes Her”

“Oh Mary!”

“Oh, Mary!” is a dark comedy about a miserable, suffocated Mary Todd Lincoln in the weeks leading up to Abraham Lincoln’s assassination. Unrequited yearning, alcoholism and suppressed desires abound in this 80-minute one-act play that finally examines the forgotten life and dreams of Mrs. Lincoln through the words and vision of playwright Cole Escola. “Oh, Mary!” received two Tony Awards, including Best Direction of a Play (Sam Pinkleton), Drama League Awards for Outstanding Play and Outstanding Direction of a Play, as well as a special citation from the New York Drama Critics’ Circle.

“Peter Pan Goes Wrong”
