RALEIGH — Preliminary numbers released by the N.C. State Board of Elections indicate that 2.5 million people cast their ballots in the state’s early voting period, which ended Saturday evening. That represents more than 40% of all registered voters in the state.
Voters battled hours-long lines from Oct. 16 to Nov. 1 across the Tar Heel State. The number of voters totaled more than double the number that voted early in 2004, and 70% of the total number of ballots cast that year. Several counties, including Durham, Forsyth, Mecklenburg and others extended Saturday’s early voting hours to accommodate larger numbers of last-minute voters.
More Democrats voted early than did Republicans. There are a total of more than 6.2 million registered voters in the state. Almost 2.9 million are Democrats. Two million are Republican. Almost 1.4 million are unaffiliated.
I voted early in Guilford county & I’m so glad early voting was an option because I have been called for JURY DUTY on election day. CRAZY!
Thank you to all those who voted early and especially to those who had the opportunity to vote for my candidacy for NC State House (District 74, Forsyth County)
Thank you Q-Notes for keeping our community informed and everyone VOTE this Tuesday, November 4th!
