Last night was the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards. Performances and artists included: Pink, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Black Eyed Peas, Taylor Swift, and many others. Of course there was the required star speckled tribute to the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson.
Congratulations Grammys! You pulled out the gay very early on! You can always count on Lady Gaga to provide viewers with a performance experience that makes you feel like a chipmunk trippin’ on acid, while walking backstage through a carnival freak show. She even came complete with a dirt covered Elton John. Unfortunately, embedding is disabled, so you’ll have to go to YouTube to watch the full on acidic experience.
Rock Goddess Pink performed “Glitter in the Air” and channeled her high altitude 2009 VMA performance. A little water was added for the 2010 Grammy edition.
One nominee many in the LGBT community were watching was Buju Banton. His anti-gay messages drew the attention of gay rights activists, and made him a not-so-favorite to win amongst many in the gay community. Buju was beaten out by Stephen Marley. The Los Angeles Times reported in August about the efforts of gay rights activists to stop his shows. GLAAD and 20 other organizations took out a full-page ad denouncing Banton’s nomination in a special Grammy edition of Variety.
