CHARLOTTE, N.C. — World AIDS Day falls on Sunday this year and several events are planned in Charlotte to commemorate the day,  just as families and friends are wrapping up their Thanksgiving holiday weekends.
The PowerHouse Charlotte will present the musical, “A Walk in My Shoes,” Friday through Sunday. The musical, written by Jermaine Nakia Lee and directed and choreographed by LaTanya Johnson tellst he story of four young people in the South infected or affected by HIV. Performances, which are free, are slated for Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. at Biddle Hall Auditorium at Johnson C. Smith University, 100 Beatties Ford Rd. On Sunday evening, the Regional AIDS Interfaith Network and the Mecklenburg County Department of Health will hold their annual Voices Project, presented by Wells Fargo. The evening will include stories from those living with HIV shared by community leaders, including Tommy Feldman of Pocket Rocket Charlotte and Tyvola Design, radio personality Matt Harris, Charlotte City Councilmember LaWana Mayfield and LGBT and immigrant youth rights organizer Juan Carlos Ramos, among others. The event is free, but donations are encouraged. The Voices Project will be held at 6 p.m. at Actor’s Theatre of Charlotte, 650 E. Stonewall St. For more information, visit carolinarain.org.
