Bar gets a nod
WINSTON-SALEM — A recent post in The Winston-Salem Journal by reporter Laura Graff showcased Club Odyssey as one of the best places to go to dance.
On the evening she chose to venture out, Tiffany Bonet was “lip-syncing” ‘Proud Mary.’ People are crowded around the floor, giving her the stage, but still dancing.”
Goes to show you that LGBT establishments know how to please their clientele. Let the music begin, Mr. Music Man.
Alliance gets big nod
GREENSBORO — Triad Equality Alliance (TEA) recently received a salute from Freedom to Marry (FTM), a national advocacy and education organization on marriage equality issues, for their media advocacy efforts. TEA has funded several LGBT awareness building billboards in Greensboro and Winston-Salem.
FTM said, “Freedom to Marry salutes the Triad Equality Alliance for their brilliant work in delivering effective messages to their North Carolina community that have put a face and personal spin on the marriage equality debate!”
Founded in March 2004 as part of EqualityNC Project, TEA’s mission is “to eliminate prejudice and to secure social justice and civil rights for LGBT people by educating and enlightening the general public about LGBT members of the community and the special issues affecting them.”
There have been six campaigns placed at the intersection of two highway systems between Winston-Salem and Greensboro.
The inspiration for the billboard effort was due largely to Linda Ketner’s (Alliance for Full Acceptance, Charleston, S.C.) presentation to the Triad Business and Professional Guild.
This year marks the effort’s sunset, according to Judith Kobler, TEA chair.
The final campaign’s theme is “Haven’t we waited long enough?” It showcases four couples who have been together 25, 21, 42 and 20 years respectively in the photo used. It is in response to the LGBT marriage issues across the U.S. Photographer Dave Milstead, Square One Creative, captured the images of these four couples for the billboard. More information about these couples can be found online at www.triadequality.org.
