CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Several LGBT-friendly candidates are facing challengers today in a local City Council primary. Some have also received the endorsement of the Mecklenburg LGBT Political Action Committee (MeckPAC).
MeckPAC released their endorsements in advance of the primary’s early voting period, and last Saturday, members of the group were out in force at an early voting site.
The group has endorsed current District 2 City Councilmember James “Smuggie” Mitchell in the Democratic mayoral primary, passing over Mayor Pro Tem Patrick Cannon and two other candidates. The group did not endorse any candidate in the Republican mayoral primary, though Edwin Peacock is largely seen as LGBT-friendly.
A full list of endorsements are below. You can read a previous story on the endorsements process and choices here. Voting is open today until 7:30 p.m. For more information on your voter registration and polling location, visit the Mecklenburg County Board of Elections’ website.

The LGBT community can control this primary if we get out and vote. We have enough LGBT voters in Charlotte to swing this in out favor. All we have to do is VOTE.
