CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Community members working in the aftermath of Charlotte’s failed LGBT-inclusive non-discrimination ordinances effort have released a survey they hope will help gauge experiences of anti-LGBT discrimination in Charlotte and Mecklenburg County.
Mel Hartsell, a social worker and community educator, is compiling the survey for the Charlotte Non-Discrimination Ordinance Coalition. The coalition is currently working toward continued community education and advocacy efforts and hopes to bring non-discrimination ordinances back to City Council in the future.
The survey, which can be accessed online here, asks residents if they have ever experienced anti-LGBT discrimination in places of public accommodation, such as businesses or in other settings. It also asks about verbal and physical harassment.
Those with experiences of discrimination are also given the opportunity to explain the incidents in detail and, optionally, provide contact information if they would like to share further details with survey researchers.
