Greetings Qnotes readers.

On the cover of our latest print issue is legendary queer icon Margaret Cho. In our interview, she shares her thoughts on comedy, politics and her latest new music.

In other entertainment news, it is with a great sense of loss we report on the death of longtime LGBTQ ally, friend and R&B singer and composer Roberta Flack. Known for a huge catalog of hit tunes including “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face,” “Where is the Love,” “Killing Me Softly with His Song, “The Closer I Get to You” and “Making Love” (the theme song to the 1982 gay drama and romance film “Making Love”), Flack was 88.

On the national LGBTQ+ news front a new Gallup poll shows an increase in the number of people in the United States who identify as LGBTQ+. We also take a look at Richard Grennell, Donald Trump’s new gay appointee to lead the Kennedy Center of the Arts.

In celebration of Women’s History Month, we examine a selection of lesser known filmography you should know from some of the legendary divas of historic queer culture.

Here in our local community, we talk with two prominent leaders from in the nonprofit arts sector — Adam Pierce and Todd Smith — and the director of the Charlotte-based Reproductive Rights coalition, Alexandria Cardone.

Don’t forget, we’re always on the prowl for local topics to cover. If you’ve got an inside line on a story that needs to be told, contact us at editor@qnotescarolinas.com.

Sincerely,

David Aaron Moore

Forgotten classic cinema you should know

A love of film and legendary divas has always been a part of queer culture. Some of these entertainers could dance and sing, while others could deliver a dramatic performance that might make you cry or a comedic punch that left you with abdominal pain from laughing so hard. And some of them could do […]
