Greetings Qnotes readers. As Black History month continues, we’re excited to offer part two of “25 in ’25,” a series of profiles of Who’s who in Charlotte’s Black LGBTQ+ community of today.

Upcoming live February 21-22 at the Blumenthal Arts Center’s Belk theater is the world renowned Alvin Ailey Dance Theater. We’ve got an exclusive interview with out and proud member Michael Jackson, Jr.

In other entertainment developments, we take a look at aspects of the soon to be released documentary “Pee-wee as Himself.” The actor who created the character known as Pee-wee Herman, a much loved comic pop culture figure of the 1980s, died in 2023. In this posthumous documentary, he reveals the challenges he faced and his sexual orientation, which he kept hidden throughout much of his career.

In addition to a firsthand account of the recent Creating Change conference, we also take a look at the continuing changes in the American political scene, and how they are affecting the LGBTQ+ community.

Don’t forget, we’re always on the prowl for local topics to cover. If you’ve got an inside line on a story that needs to be told, contact us at editor@qnotescarolinas.com.

Sincerely,

David Aaron Moore
