The OUTlook, a weekly newsletter about LGBTQ+ business, labor and workplace equality from Qnotes.
In this latest edition we take a look at Charlotte’s upcoming Black Pride celebration and their initial event, “The Kick Off.” It promises big fun for everyone in the city’s uptown area. Guaranteed, it’s an event not to miss.
From Charlotte, we jump to the western part of the state and the city of Asheville. Now known as one of the most welcoming LGBTQ+ cities of its size in the country, Asheville has a long history of support for our community. As is usually the case with the passage of time, things change. Asheville, regrettably, has just lost a piece of important queer history: Scandals. After serving the LGBTQ+ community for over 40 years, the bar and dance club has announced they have closed their doors. While their future is uncertain, internet posts indicate the club is reportedly in search of a new site. We hope for the best and wish them well.
Lastly, a new report gives us all the details on states that are welcoming for the LGBTQ+ community, and those that are not. Unfortunately, our neighboring South Carolina comes in as one of the top five states that don’t offer our community the respect, protection and caring everyone deserves.
