GREENSBORO, N.C. — A more than two-decade-old nightclub catering to LGBT locals has announced it will close at the end of the month.
Warehouse 29, 1011 Arnold St., will shutter its doors on May 31, hosting a “grand finale” that night.
“We would like for formally announce that Warehouse 29 will be closing on May 31,” the club, which originally opened in 1992, said in a message this weekend to customers on Facebook. “We have had a terrific run over the last 22 years, earning our little place in Greensboro’s history — and it could not have been accomplished without the support of the Triad LGBTQ community. We thank each of you who over the years have contributed to and supported our success!”
qnotes was unable to speak directly with owner Kent Woofter, but others have reported a new, non-LGBT establishment will take over the Warehouse 29 space.
The bar’s closure comes after the recent closure of Hartigan’s Irish Pub in Charlotte, open since 1996, and the Rainbow In in Lake Wylie, which opened in 2009.
Greensboro currently has two other LGBT nightlife establishments, The Q on W. Market St., and Chemistry Nighclub on Spring Garden St.
Nearby Winston-Salem lost its sole LGBT nightclub at the end of 2012. CO2 had opened New Year’s 2010, after its predecessor, Club Odyssey, also closed in November 2010.

I am planning on being there on the 31st to say farewell to Kent and cry in a glass of beer with all of my Drag friends from the Triad. We all will miss W29 a place that has many memories for me.
Sad to see it go… will try to make the finale. Even though Winston-Salem has not had a LGBT bar since 2012; one is set to open next month on Burke St. Club Snap, in the old Brewski’s space.
W29 is the ONLY night/dance club for the gay community. We have two neighborhood bars with little space left because everyone forgot where the hell they came from.
I don’t believe all gay people came out of Warehouse 29. We came out of a woman who we call “Mother”.
