If there’s one thing Charlotte and the Carolinas are known for its our music — traditional Bluegrass, Folk and Jazz have made history in this state, in the process becoming famous across the nation and the world. Take a trip back in time with melodies and tunes that remind us of days gone by with these local musical offerings this fall.
Jazz at the Bechtler
The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art will present monthly concerts throughout the fall, and continuing into the winter and spring. The Ziad Jazz Quartet performs a variety of sets from legendary artists each month. Performances begin at 5 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. at the museum, 420 S. Tryon St.
Oct. 3: The Music of Wayne Shorter.
Nov. 7: Latin Jazz featuring Jim Brock.
Dec. 5: Holiday Jazz.
In 2015, the museum’s quartet presents post-holiday Blues in January and “Jazz for Lovers” in advance of Valentine’s Day in February.
Charlotte Classic Jazz Festival 2014
Presented by the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center and the Jazz Arts Initiative — a cultural jazz feast for the whole family! A free all-day event, beginning at 11 a.m. and including live performances, kids’ crafts, educational activities and more. Join us in a New Orleans-style second line jazz parade to the Knight Theater at 6:15 p.m. An evening concert (admission $5) follows at 7 p.m.
