Forecasts of spotty showers and thunderstorms couldn’t stop the hilarity at Hartigan’s Irish Pub on May 15. In fact, the skies stayed clear as hundreds of Queen City LGBTs and straight allies came out to support the Human Rights Campaign at the Queen City Drag Race.

Hosted by Buff Faye, alter-ego to Campus Pride Executive Director Shane Windmeyer, the Queen City Drag Race pitted teams of amateur drag queens against each other in three competitions: the Diva Dash 100,

High Heel Run 4×4 Team Relay and team with the most money raised.

A series of events, including the Drag Race, Buff Faye’s Drag Brunch and a “Family Feud” event at Petra’s, raised a combined $2,000 for the Human Rights Campaign.

Earlier in the week, Windmeyer and Campus Pride also hosted its “Pep Rally & Fundraiser” with openly gay NCAA football champion Brian Sims. The May 13 event, held at The Bar at 316, raised $2,850 for Campus Pride. : :

Correction: In the May 29 print edition’s version of this story, we wrote the Queen City Drag Race was the “brainchild” of Buff Faye. The event’s conception actually belongs to Mitch Phelps who worked with a full committee to produce the event. We regret the error.
