In response to the disappointing 2024 federal election results, the Women’s Chorus of Charlotte (WCC) will make their holiday concert series free to attend for the public.
Looking to provide comfort for the communities they directly represent, most notably the women and LGBTQ+ community of Charlotte, the WCC has chosen to waive the fees for attending the concert dates on November 15 and 16. Without a doubt, this motion has come from the performers and staff hosting the events feeling the weight of things to potentially come.
“We want to remind you that none of us is alone. We are knit together in unbreakable bonds of community,” says Tracey Logan, Executive Director of WCC. “We think you’ll find the program a source of inspiration, reassurance and above all, connection with others who are concerned with the well-being of us all, especially those who have been pushed to the margins of society.”
For those looking to attend the concert performances, tickets would still need to be reserved on their website, https://www.gmccharlotte.org/spirit-voices. Simply select from the seating still available, after which the website will direct patrons to give more information about the attendees, whether a patron or a guest, and then the site will confirm the ticketed seats at no cost.
The concert for those evenings aims to uplift the audience through sound, while celebrating the depth and beauty of the human spirit. Included works to be featured during each performance are Dan Forrest’s monumental Ubi Caritas, Matt and Adam Podd’s delicious setting of How Can I Keep from Singing, Jim Papoulis’ breath-taking Sih’r Kalaq(Creative Magic), and Natasha Bedingfield’s insightful Unwritten.
As a caution to those on the fence about going to this year’s holiday concert, the last three WCC concerts did end up selling out, and with the prices removed, this is all but a certainty of happening again.
Logan, as well as the cast of the upcoming performances, hope that this year’s holiday show can do something for those that may be feeling a bit lost right now, given the recent turn of events. “Perhaps you find that you’re feeling a little empty … and need the healing power of music and community,” Logan says in her press release regarding the changes to the event. “Join us. Find what you’re missing.”
The Women’s Chorus of Charlotte “Spirit Voices” concert will take place on November 15 at 7:30 p.m., and on November 16 at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The location will be at the Galilee Center, the address is 3601 Central Avenue.
